About this Course
This in-person course is an introduction to the use of concrete as an architectural design material. It covers precast, cast-in-place, and trowel applied concrete materials, with a a focus on the unique properties, uses, and production/installation methods of each material.
Prerequisite Knowledge
Participants should have a general knowledge of architecture and design processes. This is a beginner course.
Learning Objective 1:
Participants will be able to differentiate between different types of concrete applications (Precast, Cast-in-place, Trowel Applied) based on each of the material’s qualities.
Learning Objective 2:
Participants will be able to specify the appropriate concrete material based on the site conditions, installation methods, performance, and aesthetics.
Learning Objective 3:
Participants will be able to explain general application, installation and maintenance methods for each of the concrete materials.
Learning Objective 4:
Participants will be able to discuss the different ways of customizing architectural concrete finishes to meet design needs and sustainability goals.
